In December 1941,
the US Congress adopted a resolution whereby the fourth Thursday of November
officially becomes the US national holiday.
Beginning of the
holidays "Thanksgiving" should be searched for the time of the first
European immigrants in the New World. Since 1621, a ship (called
"Mayflower") with about 46 people aboard (these were part of a
religious sect, the Puritans, persecuted in England at that time) arrived on
the northern coast of the current state of Virginia, after a journey that took
nearly a year. To survive in the harsh conditions of the land where you
arrived, the pilgrims learned from the Indians to cultivate potatoes, corn,
pumpkins and beans.
